LEST WE FORGET OUR POW's / MIA's
100% ACCOUNTABILITY

Comrades, its about time we stop sitting on our hands and write our employees in Washington D.C. Tell them to stop fooling around with POW/MIA families on the issue and start demanding a full accounting from all the countries that want to do business here or with our money in their countries. Petitions won’t do it - Letters will! Notes will! This year we are going full speed ahead for the POW/MIA families and prove to them that we are Veterans helping Veterans, their widows and orphans. You’ll never hear “I” in my reports only “WE, US and YOU”.

It’s a fact, there are many service personnel missing from all wars in which the United States has been involved. Let’s do our up most to get all of the POW/MIA families some closure.

We must spread the word to our Non-Military Civilian population. When you go to any POW/MIA rally or function, take a neighbor or a friend with no military background with you.

To ensure that they will not be forgotten, all VFW Posts should adopt the following program if they have not previously done so.

Write letters expressing your Post's concerns to your State and Natio nal legislators and request their involvement.

Urge support from local news media and club newsletters. Notify all news media well in advance of all POW/MIA programs in your area to ensure their participation.

Meet the POW/MIA families from your area and see if the Post or Ladies Auxiliary can be of assistance. Let them know that the VFW is concerned for their loved ones that have yet to be accounted for by the communists still holding them in captivity.

Follow up on our VFW National mandates, and our State Resolutions that require having an empty chair at all official functions. And have each Post adopt an MIA and personalize that empty chair with his name.

Urge all Posts and Districts to appoint a POW/MIA Chairman and send their names and addresses to the State Chairman.

Also your reports can be made as an Americanism/POW/MIA and Community Services. I urge all Post and District Commanders with the help of the Ladies Auxiliary to conduct a POW/MIA Dinner Table and Candlelight Service at your Post or appropriate place of your choice and make it open to the public. If you need assistance with either of these functions contact your area Chairman or me.

REPORTING

Report all POW/MIA activities such as displaying a POW/MIA Flag either at meetings, your Post home or in donations of POW/MIA Flags; candlelight ceremonies; POW/MIA Table Dinners; attendance in POW/MIA activities. Report all your activities under Americanism using the Program Reporting Form (CAVFW FORM-12) on and (CAVFW FORM-11) Award Recognition Report.

NOTE: All VFW Post homes MUST fly their POW/MIA flag- that is a National order and DOES NOT GO ON ANY REPORTS.

Send me copies of or at least how many letters you have written to your Congressman or Senators. I will be awarding the best District POW/MIA in the State at the State Convention.

SPECIAL NOTICE

The 1998-1999 Council of Administration approved the purchase and donation of 125 POW/MIA Flags. To the Highway Patrol Department. These Flags have been delivered. When the local Highway Patrol Office is ready to begin flying the Flag, the local Post and District will be notified if they can participate and obtain local media coverage. We have requested the local Highway Patrol Units to contact Department who in turn will give the name and telephone numbers of the local Post(s) and District Involved. Please make certain that you do.
